From Struggle to Solution: Facing Modern Challenges

Part 9: RSS Centenary Sankalp Blog Series

🇮🇳/🇬🇧

The Timeless Principle of Duty

The Bhagavad Gita declares: “Karmanyevadhikaraste ma phaleshu kadachana” — our right is to action, not to the fruits of action. This timeless truth forms the backdrop of the centenary declaration of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) at Bengaluru in 2025. The declaration does not stop at lofty ideals. It sets the commitment of “resolving every contemporary challenge.” In essence, it is a call to move from struggle to solution, anchored in dharmic strength and national self-confidence.

The New Nature of Challenges

Previous discussions in this series outlined the vision of Panch Parivartan (Fivefold Transformation) and the Spiritual Foundation of collective life. Both provide a perennial framework. Yet the pressing question remains: how do we apply these foundations to the fresh realities of the 21st century? The answers must avoid repetition of ideals and instead offer practical ways to move from struggle to solution.

The Information War

Our age is defined not only by armies and economies but by perceptions. Fake propaganda on social media, bias in global digital platforms, and the misuse of artificial intelligence combine to distort reality. This information war is not merely external; it seeps into minds and communities. The solution lies not in reaction but in creating authentic, verifiable, and inspiring communication — especially in local languages and through young cultural ambassadors. In this way, truth itself becomes the bridge from struggle to solution.

Legal and Institutional Bias

One of the most visible struggles arises in the legal space. Laws like the Waqf Act grant one community sweeping control over properties, while Hindu temples remain under state management. Supreme Court remarks that trivialize Hindu belief — such as “let your Vishnu repair himself” — add to the perception of injustice. Minority-run institutions enjoy extraordinary privileges, while the majority finds its own institutions constrained. The path forward requires constitutional literacy, inclusion of Indian jurisprudence in legal education, and insistence on transparent, balanced judicial processes. Only then can we journey from struggle to solution in this sensitive field.

Protecting Intellectual Heritage

A quieter yet equally serious conflict occurs in intellectual property. India’s traditional wisdom in yoga, Ayurveda, Sanskrit mantras, and medicinal plants like turmeric and neem has repeatedly been targeted for foreign appropriation. These attempts reduce living traditions into commercial patents. The answer lies in systematic documentation, academic centers devoted to Indian knowledge systems, and international advocacy. Intellectual pride and legal protection must go hand in hand in moving from struggle to solution.

Environmental and Cyber Challenges

The environmental crisis often positions India unfairly, placing global burdens on a still-developing society. While industrial nations evade responsibility, India is asked to sacrifice its growth. Yet within Indian philosophy lies the answer: Vedic ecology, water-conservation traditions, and organic agriculture. When these are modernized, they show how balance, not false binaries, leads from struggle to solution.

Likewise, cyberspace opens new dangers. Data theft, financial fraud, and hostile surveillance — often by foreign apps — threaten national and personal sovereignty. Indigenous software, cyber-literacy, and ethical hacking provide both shield and sword in the digital age.

Social and Cultural Strains

Urbanization has fractured community bonds. Traditional joint families weaken, festivals turn into private displays, and elders face neglect. At the same time, public spaces are pierced by provocative religious slogans, including calls like “sar tan se juda”, which strike at social harmony. The response cannot be counter-provocation. It must be cultural rebuilding: local community centers, inclusive celebrations, and legal frameworks that prevent public intimidation. Through such positive steps, society can proceed from struggle to solution without surrendering its spirit.

Mental Health and Modern Stress

The modern lifestyle brings unprecedented mental strain. Anxiety, depression, and stress multiply in the face of competition and social comparison. Here too, indigenous approaches — yoga, meditation, Ayurveda, and satsang — offer healing. When combined with professional counseling rooted in Indian philosophy, they become living tools to carry individuals from struggle to solution in their inner lives.

The Global Dimension

The struggles are not confined to India alone. Diaspora Hindus often feel alienated in Western lands, with children drifting from cultural roots and facing discrimination in schools or workplaces. For them, global shakhas, online programs of cultural education, and the celebration of festivals become anchors. Such practices keep identity alive while opening bridges with host societies. Thus, the journey continues from struggle to solution, even on foreign soil.

Strategy and the Threefold Path

The declaration offers not random remedies but a strategic triad.

  • Immediate action — crisis management and rapid communication.
  • Medium-term planning — building institutions, reforming policies, and forging international cooperation.
  • Long-term vision — preparing the next generation with leadership, moral clarity, and spiritual grounding.

This triad ensures that solutions are not reactive patches but enduring transitions from struggle to solution.

Opportunity within Challenge

Every age brings its own crises, but each crisis carries seeds of renewal. From digital disinformation to judicial bias, from ecological debates to cultural erosion — the call is not to despair but to create. The RSS centenary declaration’s pledge to resolve “all contemporary questions” is not an idealist’s dream. It is a practical roadmap. By combining adaptation, innovation, and cooperation, Bharat can stand before the world as a society that embodies the principle of moving from struggle to solution.
